The Nrityanjali Academy is a non-profit voluntary organisation working
in the field of STD/HIV/AIDS for the past eight years in the Slums and
Villages of Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Rangareddy villages.
- In the year 1999, with the help Andhra Pradesh AIDS Control Society
(APSACS), and the technical support by TRU (Technical Resource Unit)
we have started targeted interventions on STD/HIV/AIDS with migrant
population in slums, villages specific concentration on orphan
children and street children of Andhra Pradesh. We are the pioneers
in starting an intervention with slum population in Andhra Pradesh.
In the total project we could able to reach out to 9500 risk behaving
people, with 527 STD cases.
- With the help of BIMEG started RCH project targeting main on Antenatal
and Postnatal Women, STD/HIV/AIDS awareness for Adolescent girl, Male
youth, Married Male and Female.
- With the support and co-operation of Catholic Relief Services (CRS)
we are successfully implementing Home based Care and support project
for the people living with HIV. Presently we have around 325 PLWHA's
for which we are providing Medical, Physical, Counseling and Nutritional
support. In our project interventions we are coming across with many
numbers of PLWHA's.
- With the help and support of FHI and CRS we have started implementing
CAA (Children infected and affected with HIV/AIDS) project in 41 slums
of Secunderabad. In the process of project implementation we could
able to address the services to 73 children infected with HIV/AIDS
and 435 affected children.
To reach out to the people affectivity we have developed various kinds
of low cost IEC/BCC Material, they are kept as collections of John Hopkins
University, Media Material clearing house.
We welcome any donor agency to visit our target area, analyze our approach
and the way we are reaching out to High-risk people and implementing
the project that will help us to develop mutual co-ordination and support
for our project activities.
Our specialization is AIDS awareness shows in the form of cultural
activities. We have developed innovative and participatory Street dramas/Skits
on HIV/AIDS that make the people to participate, clarify their myths,
and misconnects on HIV/AIDS. Till date around 2000 shows are conducted
in various parts of Andhra Pradesh.
Our main focus of awareness shows are to address stigma and discrimination.
