According to the United Nations:
- 42 million people are HIV infected globally (Almost 5 million
in South Africa, over 4 million in India, over 1 million in
China).
- 29 million of the infected are in Africa
- 50 percent of total are women and girls
- 58 percent of those are in Africa
- 14 million children under age of 16 have lost one or both
parents to AIDS, 11 million in sub Saharan Africa
- 6 million people in the develloping world need HIV medication
but only 300,000 have such access
- ONLY 50 THOUSAND people in sub-Saharan Africa receive
medication although 4.1 million need it
- 45 million new HIV infections are expected by 2010

| The year 2015 is the deadline set by the
U.N. Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS to stop and reverse the
spread of the virus.
The present spending of $4.7 billion in the developing world
on AIDS programs would have to be tripled to accomplish that objective.
