Odd choice for women

How on earth can UNIFEM, the UN Development Fund for Women, name Sydney's Cardinal Pell as an "ambassador" in a campaign to eliminate violence against women when he's not prepared to defend the use of condoms in those marriages where a spouse is infected by HIV ("No excuse for violence, says Aboriginal leader", November 23)?

That's a very serious black mark against Friday's White Ribbon Day, which is intended to highlight violence against women. We call on UNIFEM to cancel the cardinal's nomination.
